Framing Story

Framing Story.

Concept 1.

25 years away from now, though the technology is highly advanced, people are still struggling to survive in a world where even a little greeness could be a luxury. Due to the over exploitation of natural resources and inability to effectively control global pollution over the years, Earth’s atmosphere has become extreme and difficult for life to survive. Airborne chemical particles deplete nutrients in soil and waterways. Humans constantly worry about the high acidity, corrosive rain that could potentially hurt them really bad and damage buildings and structures.

Message:

The message takes the form of a budding plant covered in a transparent case that contains purified soil, water, and air. Although it seems frivolous to us today because it seems like something so worthless and common, for the people in the future, this little plant represents hope, life, and the will to live on. It serves as a warning for us, who are still living in a relatively green world and taking advantage of clean air, natural resources, and Earth’s tolerance to damage.

Concept 2.

Year 2043, global nuclear war. It begins when one country took the action and as if it’s some kind of chain reaction, one after another atomic bomb detonates. Thick soot are injected into our stratosphere and these clouds of dust block the sunlight, marking the coming of the nuclear winter. These effects, including severe climate changes, radioactive pollution, and ozone layer damage turn Earth into an essentially inhabitable place for humans, animals, and plants. The humans who survived the war built underground cities that protect them from harm outside. They live in these cramped, dark, and damp facilities. Children born in this world can only imagine what the Sun feels like and looks like by studying documentaries from the golden age, longing to smell the aroma of a forest, and living their dreams under the artificial light. 35 years after the war, when Earth starts to recover from the disaster, some brave volunteers (explorers) begin their journey to the outside world.

Message:

The message takes the form of a painting. In the future, non-digital mediums are hardly used. Being able to write or draw on something physical is just a distant concept for many. The explorers, although equipped with advance recording devices, decide to finalize an illustration of the outside world so damaged that it’s unrecognizable yet strangely familiar, using the most ancient method. This painting is sent back to our time now to show us the consequences that we must face in the future by using power in the wrong way.
